HomeSafe has developed a comprehensive training manual and course for indoor air quality inspection professionals looking to add infrared to their arsenal of tools. Title: “Practical Infrared Thermography” Authors: Peng Lee and Gene Bramlett Description: Cost: $59 + $9.95 shipping Council-Certified Environmental Thermography Inspector (CETI/CETC) Training Course Description This course is a comprehensive examination of the theory and practical applications of infrared (thermal imaging) technology in the course of an environmental inspection, mold inspection, indoor air quality inspection, energy audit or home inspection. This course is based on a set of time-tested protocols developed over the course of more than ten years through research at the National Center for Physical Acoustics and 200,000-plus home inspections performed by a nationwide network of home inspectors utilizing infrared technology. By strictly adhering to the proven methods and protocols set forth in this course, home inspectors can perform more accurate and more comprehensive home inspections while minimizing their liability. The course (which incorporates ASNT Level I Thermography) focuses on theories and applications related to the usage of infrared technology in a variety of inspections. You will learn how and why thermography works to uncover a wide range of problems within a building or residence and how to make it work even better by creating optimal conditions for “thermal windows.” You will develop an understanding of the thermal performance of building materials and how certain conditions, such as the weather or time of day, can affect thermographic measurements. Overall, the main thrust of the program is practical and application-based, posing real-world problems and solutions in the classroom setting, followed by hands-on practice and training in the field. Participants will learn how to use simplified inspection processes to uncover and identify hidden problems and suspicious areas as well as how to analyze the problems and arrive at answers and solutions. Meet Your Trainers Peng Lee Peng Lee is vice president of technology for HomeSafe Inspection, Inc. He served as Research and Development Engineer with the National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) for 11 years. Lee pioneered the use of infrared technology in residential building inspections and developed the industry’s first set of standards and protocols for IR usage in home inspections. At NCPA, Lee designed various highly advanced acoustical systems using the science of sound to detect destructive insects, including termites, fire ants, rice weevils and many others. In this capacity, he was recruited to participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Operation Full Stop, a project aimed at combating imported Formosan subterranean termite infestations in New Orleans. His USDA-sponsored research led to his development of infrared (thermal imaging) usage in residential building inspections, spurring an industry-wide revolution that continues to this day. Lee co-founded HomeSafe Home Services, which set the standard for infrared home inspections, in 2003. Additionally, Lee serves on the review committee for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). He was appointed by the governor of Mississippi to the Mississippi State Board of Home Inspectors and is a Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE). He owns or shares eight patents, many of them related to infrared and acoustic building inspections, indoor air quality inspections and termite detection, with four additional patents still pending at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. A key patent involves an infrared inspection process for detecting indoor air quality issues.
