HomeSafe Inspection pioneered residential infrared inspection techniques and developed the Specialist - Infrared Residential Inspector (SIRI) training course and certification to adequately prepare home, pest, and indoor air quality inspectors to properly use infrared in residential environments.

Why Residential Use of IR is Different

Infrared has many applications in industry, medicine, law enforcement, and the military. However, use of infrared for residential inspection requires unique camera specifications and techniques. Adjunctive technology is required such as specific moisture meters. Additionally, for accurate termite inspections supplemental acoustic technology is required.

Infrared is not a replacement for traditional inspection techniques. To be accurate it must be properly integrated into traditional techniques. It is essential that inspectors understand not only how to properly use infrared in residential environments but also its advantages and limitations. Understanding liability, insurance, and client communication are all important issues in residential infrared use, as are marketing and pricing issues.

The SIRI training and certification program is the ONLY available training program that comprehensively and specifically covers use of infrared in homes. Other programs are either rudimentary introductions to residential use, or are focused primarily on industrial applications.

The SIRI course covers Level I Thermography in compliance with ASNT's Recommended Practice #SNT-TC-1A and provides a certificate upon completion.

How The SIRI Curriculum Was Developed

The SIRI curriculum was developed by Peng Lee, a research scientist and engineer formerly with the University of Mississippi's National Center for Physical Acoustics. He is a certified and Mississippi licensed home inspector , and a licensed pest inspector. Lee is one of the world's foremost experts on infrared applications in the fields of home, pest, and indoor air quality inspection.

Lee also researched and developed the standards of practice and camera specifications for residential infrared inspection as well as revolutionary acoustic equipment and software for termite inspection. He is currently working with IAQA to write the standards of practice for use of infrared in indoor air quality inspections.

Lee holds 6 patents, with others pending, for residential infrared and acoustic use. His work is research backed and has been the basis for over 40,000 inspections. His protocols, training materials and curriculum have been peer reviewed and approved by leading scientists, engineers, and instructors at major universities, research centers, and training centers including:
