SIRI - Specialist Infrared Residential Inspector

The SIRI (Specialist - Infrared Residential Inspector) Certification is awarded to home inspectors and pest control operators who complete HomeSafe's in-depth, 40-hour specialized training course (including field training) and pass a comprehensive examination in the correct usage of infrared imaging technology in the course of a home inspection or termite detection process. SIRI protocols were initially developed by scientist/research engineer Peng Lee at the University of Mississippi's National Center for Physical Acoustics as part of a research project for the USDA. Lee went on to co-found HomeSafeSIRI logo Home Services in early 2003 and pioneered IR usage and intensive IR training in home inspections as well as IR/acoustic techniques for termite detection. Lee has continued to build and update his training and certification program, incorporating the latest technological developments and relevant data from HomeSafe-licensed IR home inspectors and PCOs in the field and receiving federally approved patents on his step-by-step inspection methods.

SIRI certification signifies, to real estate agents and clients alike, that a home inspector or pest management professional is fully trained in a valuable set of infrared home inspection and termite detection skills that are unique in the industry. It establishes the certificate holder not merely as an inspector with an infrared camera, but as a home inspection or pest control professional who knows how to use infrared correctly and how to accurately interpret the data it yields.

All SIRI certificate holders are required to undergo 40 hours of specialized, hands-on training in effective usage of infrared cameras and infrared data interpretation specifically related to home inspections and termite detection. The course includes 28 hours of online classroom training (offered in conjunction with the University of Mississippi's Department of Outreach and Continuing Education) and 12 hours of training in the field.

Infrared is not a substitute for traditional home inspection techniques. SIRI trainees learn how to combine time-tested conventional inspection methods with infrared/acoustic inspection protocols to provide a more accurate, more objective and more comprehensive home inspection or wood-destroying insect inspection.
